Progressive Markets 02

John Healey’s Autumn Budget should give Mayors new powers and funding to deliver housing, health and school infrastructure projects according to a new report by The Future Governance Forum (FGF), in partnership with Trowers and Hamlins.

Good growth, regeneration and getting more investment out of London and the South East and into the regions are urgent priorities for the government. Yet time is short before the next election for the government to deliver new infrastructure, especially while fiscal constraints remain imposing. That’s why we’re recommending ‘Mayoral Infrastructure Investment Partnerships’ which are a new model of progressive PPP that Mayors can use in their region to build the infrastructure they need.

The ‘Empowering mayors with progressive public-private partnerships for growth and regeneration’ report calls on the Chancellor to use the Budget to give mayors the powers they need to deliver infrastructure in their areas, as part of the ‘Rewiring the State’ agenda, so they are licensed and supported by the Treasury and No.10 North to use the progressive public-private partnerships model where it works for them. This would see mayors given the support and funding they need to deliver PPP-financed projects.
