Write for us

Our blog serves as a platform for ideas and thought leadership, offering timely analysis on relevant developments and proposals for improving how the country is run. By bringing together insights from experienced doers and thinkers from across our ecosystem, we aim to foster innovative thinking, spark discussion and advance the debate on how we reform the state to renew the nation.

We’re always on the look out for thought-provoking contributions on the issues that matter to FGF. We particularly welcome submissions that explore the following themes:

  • Rewiring the state, including reform of central and local government structures, processes, cultures and behaviour, to enable progressive governments to deliver their political programmes
  • Mission-driven government, including how we can rewire the state around missions and strengthen cross-sector partnerships in pursuit of shared objectives.
  • Devolving powers to the nations and regions, focusing on economic devolution and fostering local growth; governance, capacity and finance; and the role of local and strategic authorities in mission delivery.
  • Reforming public services so that they deliver for people and places, emphasising prevention and a ‘test and learn’ approach to constant improvement
  • Unlocking greater investment in straitened fiscal times, covering fiscal and monetary policy; pensions reform; infrastructure and public-private partnerships; regulation; and innovation and R&D.
  • Transforming public institutions so they are fit for the 21st century and built to last.

Beyond these themes, and where relevant to FGF’s work, we also always welcome broader commentary or analysis on the government’s agenda; major political trends and developments (including internationally); and how progressives can sustain political support and govern for the long term.

Submissions must conform to our editorial standards and style guidelines, outlined below. If you’d like to submit a piece, or learn more about our publishing process, please email our Media Manager Joe Derrett.

  • Write for a broad audience, ensuring accessibility for non-specialists as well as policymakers and subject-matter experts.
  • Spell out acronyms at the first time of use, and avoid jargon.
  • Use charts and figures where helpful – these should have a clear heading above and a linked source underneath.
  • Draw upon and reference your own research or professional experience where appropriate, emphasising your unique perspective.
